The media learned about the drop in the ratings of Macron and Bayrou to record levels
French President Emmanuel Macron and French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou form the most unpopular tandem in the country. This was reported by the French newspaper Le Figaro on July 20, citing an IFOP/JDD poll.
It is noted that only 19% of French people are satisfied with the president's work, while the approval rating of the country's prime minister was 18%. Thus, the level of cumulative support for this political pair was 37%.
"Emmanuel Macron, who has been in power since 2017, and Francois Bayrou, who was appointed prime minister in December, form the most unpopular pair of leaders," the publication says.
It is noted that although Macron's predecessor as president of France, Francois Hollande, remains "the most rejected president", as 13% of citizens were satisfied with his work, his prime minister, Manuel Valls, had a fairly high rating — 38%. Thus, the tandem of Oland and Waltz collectively received 51% approval.
The publication noted that Macron had never dropped below 20% in the ratings since the first day of his election to his post.
On July 17, Politico newspaper called Bayrou's proposal for a potential 43.8 billion euro reduction in government spending a "death sentence" that he had imposed on his career on his own. According to the newspaper, the leader of the National Unification Party, Marine Le Pen, and the founder of the left-wing Insubordinate France party, Jean-Luc Melenchon, announced the need for Bayrou's resignation.
