The US Special Envoy to Turkey announced the introduction of a ceasefire in Syria
All sides of the escalation in Syria have entered into a ceasefire. This was announced on Sunday, July 20, by the special envoy of the President of the United States, Thomas Barrack.
"As of 17:00 Damascus time (coincides with Moscow time. — Ed.) all parties have moved to the suspension and cessation of hostilities," he said on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
He also stressed that the next cornerstone on the path to long-term de-escalation is the complete exchange of hostages and detainees. Barrack added that the development of the conflict can be contained only through an agreement to end violence, protect the innocent and ensure humanitarian access.
On July 19, the press service of the Syrian President of the transitional period, Ahmed al-Sharaa, announced his order to immediately impose a ceasefire in the province of Al-Suwayda. It was clarified that he also warned against any violation of this decision, as this "would entail the necessary legal measures."
