The Russian Interior Ministry called non-obvious mistakes in protecting against fraudsters

Many Russians make subtle mistakes when protecting themselves from fraudsters. This was announced on July 20 in the Department for the Organization of the Fight against the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The agency noted that one of the typical problems is the use of outdated WEP or WPA security protocols to protect home Wi-Fi. Citizens were encouraged to switch to the modern WPA3 protocol, which provides more reliable data encryption.

The Interior Ministry also warned about the danger of storing bank data and passwords in browsers.

"The built—in managers are convenient, but less secure than special programs," the department said.

In addition, experts urged to remain calm when fraudsters try to cause panic or create an appearance of urgency. All questionable messages and calls should be checked through official channels.

Separately, the Interior Ministry recommended using private tabs and refraining from financial transactions on public Wi-Fi networks. It is also important to give complex answers to security questions or use encrypted hints — attackers can learn simple information through social networks or applications.

"Even if your password is secure, fraudsters can bypass security through security questions," the agency's Telegram channel emphasized.

The day before, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that a person who was deceived by fraudsters and gave them his personal data has a "golden hour" to minimize the consequences. It was clarified that the following steps should be taken: promptly change the password and access code to the banking service; freeze bank cards and accounts; promptly contact the bank at the number indicated on the bank card or the official website.
