According to the newspaper, after thick black smoke began to pour from the lower decks, panic began on board. On social media, eyewitnesses posted videos of passengers screaming and asking for help.

"Some footage shows the crowded deck of the ship, where staff helped passengers fasten their life jackets before jumping off the ferry," the newspaper writes.

Authorities have not yet confirmed information about possible victims.
