The outstanding composer David Tukhmanov turns 85 on July 20. His song "Victory Day" became a symbol of the end of the Great Patriotic War, and such compositions as "The Last train", "How beautiful this world is", "These eyes opposite", won the hearts of the audience.

The legendary Victory song was not approved by the artistic council at the time. The performer of the hit Lev Leshchenko helped, who obtained permission to perform it on the Militia Day.

"Art does not tolerate approximations, but here everything is so precise, you know, every word, every note is spelled out. And it was impossible, I couldn't sing it otherwise," recalls the famous singer.

At the same time, Tukhmanov is not only the author of the immortal "Victory Day." This is how his romance "Vain Words" based on poems by Larisa Rubalskaya attracts attention.

"I'm performing fervently, as usual. Well, to prepare him, to warm up the audience. And then he comes out (Tukhmanov. — Ed.). He sits down to the instrument, touches the key. The second, the third. And everyone forgot that I was there. It's true," the poet shared.

Earlier, on May 25, a concert dedicated to Tukhmanov's anniversary was held in the Grand Kremlin Palace. At the event, the songs of the beloved composer were performed by Lev Leshchenko, Larisa Dolina, Valery Syutkin, the Ivanushki band, Serge and others.
