- The German Foreign Minister linked Trump's decision to continue helping Kiev with Merz's efforts.
US President Donald Trump's decision to continue providing assistance to Ukraine is linked to the efforts of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. This was announced on July 20 by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl.
"Friedrich Merz played an important role in this, because from the very beginning he made it clear that he was committed to the cause of Ukraine. He talked about it while in the Oval Office. And he talked about it in private conversations at the G7 summit," he said in an interview with Bild newspaper.
According to the German Foreign Minister, Merz also called Trump and stressed the need for the United States to participate in providing support to Kiev. Vadevul noted that Berlin can rejoice at the reasonable relations that the Chancellor has built with the American president.
Earlier, on June 17, The Wall Street Journal newspaper acknowledged the ability of Russian ballistic missiles to bypass Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs) radar installations. An unnamed Ukrainian official stressed that the American system in the country is experiencing more and more difficulties due to the appearance of more maneuverable ballistic missiles in the Russian Federation.
Later, on July 19, military analyst Alexander Merkouris pointed out the senselessness of the decision to send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, since Russian missiles bypass them. According to the publication, Russian missiles can hit targets and bypass the Patriot air defense system.
