- The Russian Ambassador noted the use of Romania by the West to interfere in the conflict in Ukraine
The West considers Romania as a springboard for intervention in the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on July 20 by the Russian Ambassador to Bucharest, Vladimir Lipaev.
According to him, this poses threats to regional security. He stressed that the collective West is increasingly trying to interfere in the conflict with the hope of changing its course by increasing the degree of escalation.
"The use of the territory of the member states of the alliance [NATO] closest to Russia, including Romania, is considered as one of the instruments of such interference. For this reason, the militarization of Romania is in full swing," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Russian ambassador also pointed to the deployment of elements of the American missile defense system (ABM) on Romanian territory, the expansion of military bases, and an increase in the NATO contingent. In particular, Lipaev stressed that the Romanian Mihai Kogalniceanu airbase is located less than 400 km from Sevastopol.
Earlier, on June 30, it became known that since the beginning of 2022, about 130,000 Ukrainian military personnel have been trained in Western countries. It was clarified that in November of that year, the European Union launched the EUMAM mission, which the bloc called "a key tool to strengthen Kiev's combat capabilities."
