Germany pointed to the negative consequences for the EU from anti-Russian sanctions
Anti-Russian sanctions have turned against the European Union (EU). This was announced on July 18 by Gunther Verheugen, a former member of the European Commission (1999-2010), who oversaw the expansion of the EU, and then industry and entrepreneurship.
"None of the goals [of the sanctions] have been achieved. <...> Objective data show that the sanctions policy has primarily harmed its initiators, especially Germany," he wrote in an article for die Weltwoche magazine.
On July 19, the official journal of the European Union reported that a new package of EU anti-Russian sanctions had entered into force. It was clarified that sanctions were imposed against 22 Russian banks, including T-Bank, Surgutneftegazbank and Bank Saint Petersburg. The list also includes film director Karen Shakhnazarov, rector of Vladimir Kuryanov Vernadsky Crimean Federal University.
