The hero of the DPR, battalion commander "Somalia" Mikhail Tolstykh, known by the call sign "Givi", was honored on his birthday in Donetsk, at the place where he is buried. This was reported on July 19 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

"He would have turned 45 today, but he has been gone for almost nine years. He always came to congratulate me with flowers, and today I brought him flowers. He celebrated his last birthday when he was 36 years old. And I came to him, brought flowers, and he scolded me: "Mom, why are you bringing me flowers, I have to bring you flowers." It was the last birthday when I was with my son," Nina Tolstykh, Givi's mother, shared her memories.

According to her, Mikhail did a lot for the republic — he was the first to stand up for his people and gave his all to Donetsk.

Mikhail Tolstykh commanded the Somalia battalion and tragically died on February 8, 2017 in his own office at the unit's base in Makeyevka. He could have turned 45 on this day. His memory is cherished not only in the hearts of his colleagues, but also in the words of his mother, who continues to share memories of her son.

The event was organized by the team of the "Young Republic" and the "Young Guard of United Russia" of the DPR.

On June 22, the Rosgvardiya honored the memory of the fallen during the Great Patriotic War. The commemorative event was opened by the Deputy Director of the department, Colonel-General Alexei Vorobyov, on behalf of the Director of the Russian Guard, Army General Viktor Zolotov.
