A large-scale Olympic Moscow sports festival was held in the capital on July 19. On the anniversary of the opening of the 1980 Summer Olympics, the city once again turned into a sports center.

The Moscow Olympic Torch relay is taking place all over the Garden Ring. Nikita Nagorny, Olympic champion in gymnastics and Honored Master of Sports of the Russian Federation, opened the solemn procession with a torch in his hands.

"I'm thrilled, to be honest. It's the first time in my life that I've carried a torch. Firstly, and secondly, there's such incredible energy. I think we've all been energized by this Olympic atmosphere today. We're all going together, look at how many people are behind, it's a blessing for me," the athlete shared.

There are 12 themed locations throughout the Garden Ring, where everyone can find something to do, from freestyle basketball to biathlon, from wrestling to curling.

"The game of volleyball is particularly popular, anyone can become a part of the team, we keep the score 11:8, we play up to 25 points," said Anna Nichugovskaya, a correspondent for Izvestia.

The culmination of the festival is the launch of the main symbol of the Olympic Games—80. The Olympic bear is hovering over Moscow again, just as it did 45 years ago.

Earlier, on July 10, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that the territory of the Luzhniki Olympic Sports complex would become one of the best recreation areas in the capital. More than 10 outdoor sports grounds will be built there, outdoor soccer and tennis fields will be landscaped, and one of the largest ice rinks in the capital will be flooded in winter.
