- In France, an exhibition visitor took a bite of a banana from the Comedian installation
A visitor to the Pompidou-Metz Center for Contemporary Art in eastern France took a bite of a banana from the work "Comedian" by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. This was reported on July 18 by the regional newspaper Republicain Lorrain.
It is specified that the incident occurred on July 12.
"A visitor to the exhibition Un dimanche sans fin (Endless Sunday – Ed.) at the Pompidou-Metz Center attacked the conceptual work of the artist Maurizio Cattelan, estimated at several million dollars," the article says.
The administration of the exhibition center indicated that the banana is a product with an expiration date and is regularly replaced. The integrity of the work has been restored.
It is noted that the visitor was shocked that this work could be estimated at $6.2 million.
Earlier, on June 24, in Montreal, eco-activists from the movement "Canada's Last Generation" doused Picasso's painting L'htare with paint. It was noted that the 21-year-old eco-activist threw paint on the canvas, while two more participants filmed the incident on video. The representative of the movement explained his action by the fact that local authorities spend more money on protecting works of art than on providing for the needs of their citizens.
