The Italian population does not want to become a participant in the Ukrainian conflict and opposes arming Kiev. Italian historian Andrea Lucidi stated this in an interview with Izvestia on July 19.

"The Italian government may be beginning to realize that the Italian people do not want to be involved in a <conflict> against Russia. In Italy, over the past two years, we have seen many actions, public actions, protests and demonstrations against the policy of armed Ukraine, and sometimes in favor of friendship between Russia and Italy," Lucidi said, commenting on the Italian government's decision to refuse to purchase weapons from the United States for supplies to Kiev.

According to the historian, the Italian people saw how much the Ukrainian conflict was really worth, because ordinary citizens began to pay even more for life, food, electricity, water and heating. As a result, they are paying for the "European policy against Russia."

On July 14, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States and the European Union had reached an agreement on the supply of weapons to Ukraine. According to him, the United States will produce weapons for Ukraine, and European countries will pay for them.

At the same time, some European countries, in particular France, Italy and the Czech Republic, have stated their lack of intention to purchase American weapons for Ukraine.
