The Syrian president announced an immediate cease-fire in the province of al-Suwayda.
Syrian President of the transitional period Ahmed al-Sharaa ordered the immediate introduction of a ceasefire in the province of al-Suwayda. This was announced on July 19 in the press service of the head of state.
"The President of the Republic calls on everyone to allow the Syrian state, its institutions and its forces to responsibly observe the ceasefire regime, ensuring stability and stopping the bloodshed," reads the declaration published on the Telegram channel of the press service.
It clarifies that in this context, security forces have begun deploying in a number of areas to ensure compliance with the ceasefire, maintain public order, and protect citizens and their property, thereby "contributing to calm and stability."
Ahmed al-Sharaa also warned against any violation of this decision, stating that it would be considered a clear violation of national sovereignty and "would entail the necessary legal measures."
On the same day, the US Special Representative for Syria, Tom Barrack, announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa, with the support of Washington, had agreed to a cease-fire. In addition, he said that the United States is calling on the Druze, Bedouins and Sunnis to lay down their arms in order to build a "new unified Syrian identity."
