In the German city of Dusseldorf, 19 people, including one child, were injured at a traditional fair due to a firework explosion. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on Saturday, July 19, with reference to the police.
"At a traditional fireworks display on Friday evening, at least one firecracker flew into the audience and exploded in the middle of the crowd. According to preliminary data, 19 people were injured, four of them seriously," the police said in a statement.
The organizer decided to end the fair ahead of schedule. The exact cause of the incident is still unknown, but police believe it was an accident.
The Times of India newspaper reported on June 29 about a mass stampede in the city of Puri at the largest Hindu festival Jagannath Rath Yatra. As a result of the incident, three people were killed and more than 50 were injured.
