Colombia wanted to prohibit its citizens from participating in foreign conflicts at the legislative level. This was announced on July 18 by the country's Deputy Foreign Minister Mauricio Jaramillo.

"At the moment, we are promoting a law in the Congress of the republic that is aimed at resolving this problem in order to avoid such cases, which obviously worry us, and not only in the context of Ukraine," the deputy minister told reporters in response to a question about the participation of citizens of the country in the conflict in Ukraine. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Jaramillo noted that it is unacceptable for Colombia for Colombians to travel to third countries to participate in hostilities on behalf of foreign countries.

Earlier in the day, President Gustavo Petro criticized the sending of mercenaries to Ukraine. The politician also called for protecting the lives of young people, from whose deaths the owners of security companies associated with crime profit.
