US President Donald Trump is tightening his stance on a trade deal with the European Union (EU), insisting on imposing a minimum tariff of 15-20% on all goods from European countries. This was reported on July 18 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing informed sources.

According to three sources with knowledge of the negotiations, Trump has tightened his demands in trade negotiations with the EU, insisting on a minimum tariff of 15-20% in any deal with the bloc.

According to the newspaper, Trump is trying to test the "pain threshold" in this way after negotiations that mentioned duties of 10% on imports from Europe.

It is noted that the European Union may be forced to accept increased base duties due to the fact that the deadline for the agreement expires on August 1.

On July 12, Trump announced US plans to impose 30% duties on goods from the European Union from August 1, 2025. He added that duties will not be imposed if the EU or its companies decide to manufacture products in the United States.
