India has expanded the number of sources of oil and gas imports from 27 to 40 countries. This was announced on Thursday, July 17, by the country's Oil Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri.
"India has diversified its sources of supply, and I think we've gone from about 27 countries that we used to buy from to about 40 countries now," Puri was quoted as saying by Reuters.
In addition, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that meeting energy needs is a "top priority" for the country. In this area, New Delhi is guided by what is offered in the markets and "prevailing global circumstances."
On July 13, it was reported that Russian oil imports to India in June reached the highest level since July 2024. It was clarified that more than half accounted for three Indian oil refineries that export this resource to the G7 countries.
