In the coming weekend, from July 19 to July 20, the State Traffic Inspectorate will conduct massive and continuous checks of drivers, special attention will be paid to identifying motorists driving while intoxicated. The upcoming raids were announced by the regional departments of the department.

Raids will take place on roads in the Kirov, Tver, Samara, Ivanovo regions, as well as in the Altai Republic, the Komi Republic and other regions of the country.

"On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminds drivers about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who have got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out regularly by traffic inspectors on weekends," Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

He urged not to remain indifferent and inform the police when they see people driving drunk, behaving inappropriately on the road and creating dangerous situations. The State Traffic Inspectorate recalled that for driving under the influence of alcohol and refusing a medical examination, it provides for the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a heavy fine.

On July 11, it was reported that the Russian Interior Ministry had developed a draft "Strategy for improving road safety," according to which deaths in road accidents on the country's roads should decrease by one and a half times by 2030 and by half by 2036 compared to 2023.
