A court in South Korea has rejected a motion to lift the arrest of the ex-president.
A court in South Korea has rejected former President Yoon Seok-young's request to have his arrest lifted for an unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law in the republic. This was reported on July 18 by the Yonhap news agency.
"Based on the results of the interrogation of the suspect and the case materials, the petition was found to be unfounded and rejected," the agency cites the court's ruling.
It is clarified that the court made the decision a few hours after the end of the hearing, which examined the legality of the arrest of the ex-president.
On July 10, Yoon Seok-yeol was taken into custody for the second time since the failed attempt to impose martial law. It was noted that the judge decided to issue the warrant requested by the prosecutor due to concerns that the ex-president might try to destroy evidence in his case.
