As part of GARAGE FEST 2025, the All-Russian engineering competition Formula Student will be held at the Igor Drive autodrom in the Leningrad Region. A record number of foreign participants are expected to attend this year.

Formula Student appeared in 1998, when the SAE Society of Automotive Engineers decided to hold competitions for students of the best technical universities in Europe. The students had to design and build a racing car within a year within strict regulations, and then show in practice that it was their product that was the best.

Russian university teams have been participating in the Student Formula since 2007. Over time, the number of Russian teams grew, and then Russia had its own "Formula Student".

Only students can be members of the team. All external specialists, including graduates and teachers, can participate in the project solely as consultants.

The competition includes both static and dynamic model tests. The static tests evaluate the engineering, design and protection of the structure. The participants present their car to the jury, justify technical solutions and demonstrate a business plan for mass production.

During the dynamic tests, each sample passes through the track in turn, where acceleration to 75 km/h, maximum cornering speed, fuel consumption and track passage time are evaluated.

A total of 15 teams will take part in the "Student Formula" this year. The majority, 12 teams, will compete in the CV class for cars with internal combustion engines. Russia is represented by seven teams, four teams will come from abroad, and another team is Russian-Chinese.

This year, Moscow is represented by the Russian University of Transport, St. Petersburg by Peter the Great Polytechnic University, Belgorod by V. G. Shukhov University, Tolyatti by TSU, Cherepovets by CSU, and Ufa by the University of Science and Technology. Teams from the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Guilin, Turkish Sakarya and Erzurum, as well as a joint team of universities of railways from Yekaterinburg and Zhengzhou are also participating in the competition.

All GARAGE FEST visitors will be able to get into the Formula Student paddock by looking at both the cars and the competition itself.

Earlier, on June 30, the Igora Drive autodrom was visited by children from Donbass. More than 2 thousand children from new regions visited the race track and saw the drift competitions.
