Spain pointed out the senselessness of Trump's threats against Russia
US President Donald Trump should abandon aggressive rhetoric against Russia and stop treating it as a country that can allegedly be influenced by threats. This opinion was shared by the Spanish newspaper Publico on July 18.
"It seems unwise to consider Russia as a country that can be broken by threats. History shows that this approach to Western diplomacy towards Russia has always been doomed to failure," the publication says.
The article also notes that US attempts to put pressure on China may further strengthen relations between China and Russia. According to the newspaper, attempts to "intimidate" Beijing may turn against Washington itself.
On July 14, the American leader announced that the United States would impose 100% secondary duties on Russia if a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine was not reached within 50 days. He also said that he supports the congressional initiative on sanctions against Russia, but "does not yet know whether it will be necessary."
