Czech President Petr Pavel has signed an amendment to the country's criminal code prohibiting the propaganda of communist ideology. This was announced on July 18 by the Euractiv portal.

The revised legislation introduces penalties of up to five years in prison for anyone who "creates, supports or promotes Nazi, Communist or other movements clearly aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms or inciting racial, ethnic, national, religious or class hatred," the publication says.

According to Euractiv, this reform has already caused a negative reaction from the left-wing Communist Party of the Czech Republic and Moravia. It remains unclear how the new law will apply to such political forces. So far, the party has no seats in parliament, but everything may change after the elections in October.

On June 15, the monument to the Soviet soldier "Honor and Glory of the Soviet Army" was dismantled in Litomerice, Czech Republic. It is specified that he was removed from the pedestal and transported to a warehouse. It is clarified that local residents compared the demolition of the monument to the rewriting of history.
