- The Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned the adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia
China has always strongly opposed the imposition of unilateral sanctions that are not approved by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). This was announced on July 18 by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian during a briefing for journalists.
It is clarified that such a statement was made after the adoption by the permanent representatives of the European Union (EU) countries of the 18th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. The new restrictions will affect the operation of the Nord Stream gas pipelines and the reduction of the oil price ceiling to $47.6 per barrel.
"China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law and UN Security Council sanctions," RIA Novosti quoted the Chinese diplomat as saying.
Lin Jian said on July 15 that the Chinese and Russian authorities at all levels maintain close contacts to jointly counter challenges in a difficult international situation. It is specified that such a statement was made following a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
