Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine. This was reported on July 18 by the Ukrainian newspaper Strana.ua" in the Telegram channel with a link to the relevant document.

"To appoint Umerov Rustem Enverovich as secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine," the initiative's text says.

Earlier in the day, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that the United States had not agreed on Umerov's appointment as ambassador to Washington because of his close contact with the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Andriy Ermak.

On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal. It was noted that 261 deputies voted for his resignation, while no one opposed it.
