- The prosecutor requested eight years for journalist Kurbangaleeva in the terrorism case.
The prosecutor's office has requested eight years in a general regime penal colony in absentia for former TV presenter Farida Kurbangaleeva (listed in the register of foreign agents of the Russian Federation, the list of extremists and terrorists) in the case of justifying terrorism and spreading fakes about the Russian army. This was reported by a correspondent of Izvestia from the hall of the Second Western District Military Court on July 18.
The state prosecution also asked to find journalist Alexei Baranovsky guilty of justifying terrorism (he is listed in the register of foreign agents of the Russian Federation, the list of extremists and terrorists) and to sentence him to six years in a penal colony.
It was established that in May 2024, the ex-TV presenter and an accomplice published a video in which they found signs of calls for terrorist activities and their justification. Also in January 2023, Kurbangaleeva posted material on a public channel containing false information about the Russian Armed Forces during a special operation.
Both she and Baranovsky are wanted.
On June 26, Kurbangaleeva was arrested in absentia for two months. On July 30, the court rejected her appeal against her arrest in absentia. On October 9, the former TV presenter was put on the international wanted list for spreading fakes about the Russian Armed Forces.
The Ministry of Justice added the journalist to the list of foreign agents on June 28 for spreading false information about decisions taken by public authorities of the Russian Federation and their policies. On October 18, she appealed her status as a foreign agent in court.
