Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did not dismiss the head of the main intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense Kirill Budanov (included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation) due to pressure from the American embassy in Kiev. This was reported on July 17 by The Spectator magazine, citing a senior European diplomat.

"Only pressure from the American embassy in Kiev prevented the resignation," the publication says.
