India has announced the development of its own spacecraft
The next Indian astronaut will go into space on a ship built in the republic. This was announced on July 17 by Indian Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh, commenting on the successful flight to the ISS of Indian cosmonaut Shubhanshu Shukla as part of the Axiom-4 mission on a Falcon 9 rocket.
"The next mission will be completely proprietary, developed in India from scratch. Indian astronauts will travel to space on an Indian spacecraft for the first time," The Economic Times newspaper quoted him as saying.
Singh also said that India is working on building its own space station and is open to conducting foreign experiments and receiving astronauts. According to him, it should be operational by 2035.
The minister added that the Indian cosmonaut's participation in the flight to the ISS provided tremendous experience and knowledge for future expeditions.
The crew of SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft, which included an astronaut from India, embarked on its first two-week mission to the ISS on June 25. For India, Poland and Hungary, this launch marked the return to manned space flight after more than 40 years and the first mission to the ISS.
