Moscow considers the build-up of Tallinn's military potential, including the appearance of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) HIMARS in the republic, as an integral part of the militarization of the Baltic region. This was announced on July 17 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We consider the build—up of Estonia's military potential, including the introduction of HIMARS missile systems and the conduct of appropriate firing, as part of a broader and very dangerous trend of militarization of the Baltic region," she said at a briefing.

The diplomat stressed that Estonia is one of the most hostile countries towards Russia. According to her, along with other Baltic regimes, Tallinn replicates myths about the alleged threat from Russia.

"Russia, unlike these most reckless, completely crazy actions of the Baltic regimes, is not interested in inciting militaristic rhetoric," Zakharova stressed.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 14 that tensions were currently high in the Baltic, but Russia intended to firmly defend its interests in the region. He also added that it is quite obvious that many countries are engaged in provocative actions there.
