The Qatari Ambassador appreciated the cooperation with the Russian Federation

Fruitful cooperation with Russia and Ukraine has simplified the process of reuniting Ukrainian children with their families. This was stated to Izvestia by Qatar's ambassador to Russia, Ahmed Nasser Al-Thani. The country has always had special relations with Moscow, the diplomat said.

"We in the State of Qatar always fulfill such humanitarian obligations — this is done on the instructions of His Highness Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Thanks to these high guidelines, we were able to effectively implement the humanitarian mission in which Qatar played an important role. Of course, there have been difficulties and obstacles — they always exist when doing any job, especially when it comes to children and humanitarian issues," the ambassador said.

On July 17, another ceremony of reuniting 11 Ukrainian children with their families took place in the building of the Qatari Embassy in Moscow. In total, with the mediation of the country, more than 100 children were transferred to their families.

"This is not the first and not the last mission. Qatar has always played a positive role in diplomacy. We strive for diplomatic efforts, political dialogue, and a rational approach to resolving any issues. Therefore, Qatar always makes a positive contribution to the humanitarian sphere," the diplomat said.

As for Qatar's participation in other humanitarian initiatives, in particular regarding the exchange of detainees, medical assistance and the restoration of infrastructure, it depends on many factors, the ambassador said. Before starting humanitarian work, it is necessary to have a foundation, it always begins with a political and diplomatic dialogue at the negotiating table in order to put an end to any crisis situation, he stressed.

A day earlier, the Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, reported that a 13-year-old boy had been returned to Russia from Ukraine through the mediation of Qatar. It was noted that the child had been living with his grandmother in Ukraine since 2016, but the family and the boy himself expressed a desire to reunite in Russia.
