British residents have become less trusting of the actions of the US authorities. This was reported by Politico on July 17, citing survey data.

"Only 38% of Britons are confident that America will act responsibly in the world, which is 15 percentage points less than in 2024," the article says.

According to the newspaper, trust has plummeted over the past year. The change in attitude towards Washington occurred after a "tumultuous year in American politics," especially influenced by the return of Donald Trump to the White House.

"The British respondents (33%) considered the actions of the US president to be more serious threats to national security than terrorism (32%) or the strengthening of China (25%)," writes Politico.

Only 31% of the kingdom's residents now consider the United States to be its closest ally. At the same time, the proportion of Britons who consider the European Union to be Britain's closest ally has increased significantly, from 17% in 2024 to 29% in 2025.

Six years after Brexit, 62% of Britons said they believe Britain should move closer to the European Union because of Trump's actions.

The survey was conducted by J.L. Partners among 2,132 people between May 27 and May 29, 2025.

On July 11, Sky News reported that Trump might not be given the right to speak to members of the British parliament during the American leader's visit to the UK, scheduled for September 2025. According to Sky News, some MPs do not want to allow Trump to speak before parliament "because of his disturbing comments on international issues."
