The Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected the lawyers' petition and decided to keep the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, under house arrest. This was announced on Thursday, July 17, by the Canal 5 TV channel.

"The Chisinau Court of Appeal has upheld the house arrest of Gagauz Bashkan Evgenia Gutsul," the Telegram channel says.

After the meeting, Hutsul stated that the decision was expected, since the laws in Moldova "work against people and in favor of politicians."

"This performance has been going on for more than five months and is not aimed at my release, but serves to use me as an example: today you are forbidden to speak and show your will," the head of Gagauzia said.

According to Evgenia Hutsul's lawyer Natalia Bayram, the demand that is being put forward by the defense to this day is to release Evgenia Hutsul. She stressed that her detention under house arrest is "the height of lawlessness."

Earlier, on July 15, Hutsul's lawyers challenged the decision to extend the arrest for 30 days in the republic's Court of Appeal.

On July 10, the Chisinau court extended the term of Hutsul's house arrest for 30 days. After the court session, the head of Gagauzia stated that the extension of house arrest was predictable and that the police and justice in Moldova had lost their original function and thus fulfilled the role of a political instrument.
