Great Britain and Germany have signed a mutual defense assistance agreement.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz signed an agreement according to which the countries committed themselves to help each other in the event of an armed attack on one of the states. The Bloomberg news agency writes about this on July 17.

According to Starmer, this will "bring Britain and Germany closer together than ever before" in the face of challenges such as economic pressure from US President Donald Trump and the conflict in Ukraine.

"The conclusion of such an agreement with each other is long overdue," Merz said at the signing ceremony.

According to the agency, citing German officials, the new agreement between Britain and Germany is a reaction to the growing concern of European allies about the commitment of the United States to the North Atlantic Alliance.

"Starmer and Merz have also committed to delivering a new long—range missile system, the Deep Precision Strike, over the next decade," Bloomberg writes.

In May, the British government announced that the United Kingdom and Germany were planning to develop precision weapons with a range of more than 2,000 km.
