Tatarstan has adopted in the first reading a bill to restrict the sale of motor gasoline to minors, as well as to impose fines for the sale of fuel to them. This was announced on July 17 by the State Council of the republic.

The ban is planned to be introduced to reduce injuries and deaths in road accidents of children who travel on public roads on mopeds, ATVs, pit bikes and other motorized vehicles. The only exception will be the retail sale of gasoline when refueling a vehicle for persons over the age of 16 who are eligible to drive such vehicles.

For non-compliance with restrictions on the sale of fuel, the bill provides for a fine of 3-5 thousand rubles for citizens, 30-50 thousand rubles for officials and 100-150 thousand rubles for legal entities.

"We have received requests from gas stations that have restricted the sale of fuel to this category of people, but this has not been regulated by law," said Svetlana Zakharova, Chairman of the Committee on Social Policy.

According to the State Traffic Inspectorate of Tatarstan, the number of accidents involving motor vehicles and minors in 2024 increased by 40% compared to 2023, and the death toll tripled.

On June 18, it was reported that the State Duma proposed to introduce a ban on the operation of pit bikes on public roads in the traffic regulations and to provide penalties for adults for transferring pit bikes to children in the Administrative Code.
