- In the first half of 2025, the smuggling of jewelry worth 753.4 million rubles was stopped.
In January-June 2025, the smuggling of precious and semi-precious stones, gold, precious metals and jewelry made from them was stopped for 753.4 million rubles. This was reported to Izvestia by the press service of the Federal Customs Service.
The customs authorities have initiated 63 criminal cases on the facts of their illegal movement, which is 43% more than in the same period of 2024 (36 cases).
Most often, individuals try to smuggle jewelry with concealment from customs control (50 cases under art. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of strategically important goods")). 13 cases were also initiated under Article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Customs evasion").
In the first half of 2025, customs officers initiated 189 cases of administrative offenses (212 cases in the same period of 2024). Of these, there are 135 cases of AP on import and 54 cases of AP on export.
The smuggled jewelry was mainly transported by air passengers. Most of them were illegally imported from the UAE, Turkey and China, and goods were exported to China, Turkey and Mongolia. The largest number of violations was detected by the customs offices of the capital's airports, as well as in the North Caucasus and Far Eastern regions.
The Federal Customs Service of Russia reminds that precious metals, stones and products made from them are strategically important goods for which a large value exceeding 1 million rubles is recognized.
On June 23, Svetlana Petrenko, the official representative of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation, reported on the suppression of the activities of groups of persons involved in the illegal trafficking of natural precious stones in Moscow.
