The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) on Thursday, July 17, denied information about the threat to Russian tourists in Egypt due to a military base.

Earlier, in one of the Telegram channels, with reference to tourists, it was reported that there is a military base next to the Stella Di Mare Beach Hotel & Spa, because patrols are allegedly on duty on the beach, which, according to vacationers, perceive them as saboteurs.

ATOR clarified that a strategic facility is indeed located in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh next to the Stella Di Mare Beach Hotel & Spa. It is noted that these are peacekeepers — representatives of the Multinational Forces and observers (MFOs), who have been monitoring the implementation of the agreement between Egypt and Israel since 1973. According to the association, the base has been located there for several decades and does not pose a threat to tourists.

"There have never been any restrictions on swimming in this hotel, much less "warning shots": there is a UN peacekeeping base nearby, which cannot possibly engage in some kind of "search for saboteurs" and shooting," Artur Muradian, ATOR's Vice president for International Tourism and Director General of the Space Travel tour operator, is quoted as saying. on the website.

On June 13, the Russian Embassy in Egypt called on Russian tourists staying in Sharm el-Sheikh to exercise increased caution amid the escalation of the situation in the region due to the Israeli attack on Iran. In addition, at that time, the diplomatic mission urged tourists to follow the warnings of the authorities about possible threats and follow their orders.
