Over the past day, 380 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 53 people were killed and 448 injured. Eight of the dead were pedestrians, the remaining 45 were drivers and passengers of vehicles. This was reported to Izvestia on July 17 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In the Novosibirsk region, on 291 km of the Novosibirsk—Pavlodar regional highway, a 39-year-old driver of a mini-crossover drove into the oncoming lane while overtaking in a prohibited place, where he collided with another passenger car driven by a 37-year-old motorist. Both drivers, two passengers of the car responsible for the collision and three passengers of the second were killed in the accident. The one-year-old daughter of the second participant in the incident was hospitalized with injuries. At the time of the head-on collision, she was in the back seat in a child restraint.

As a result of 77 accidents, 34 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 43 outside their area of operation, 71 pedestrians were injured of varying severity. Among the injured were 21 minor pedestrians, 13 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated places.

67 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 74 young road users were injured, including 34 passengers, eight cyclists and nine motor transport drivers. Four children were killed: two pedestrians and two passengers, one of whom was being transported on a motorized vehicle driven by a minor.

So, in the Nizhny Novgorod region in the evening, a 12-year-old motorcyclist did not provide an advantage in traffic when leaving a dirt road onto a paved highway and collided with a passenger car. An eight-year-old motorcycle passenger who was riding a vehicle without a helmet was killed in the accident. The young motor transport driver was injured and ended up in the hospital. He had not previously been issued a driver's license due to his age, and the motorcycle was not registered in accordance with the established procedure.

In the Samara region, on a regional highway, a 29-year-old driver of a GAZ Sobol van ran over an eight-year-old pedestrian who suddenly ran out in front of the car onto the roadway. The boy died. The children were swimming in the river under the bridge unaccompanied by adults, and one of them suddenly decided to run to the other side of the road. In the city of Balakovo, Saratov region, a 34-year-old car driver, while reversing through a courtyard, inadvertently ran over a five-year-old girl who was in the immediate vicinity of the car, accompanied by her mother. As a result of the accident, a young pedestrian was killed.

According to operational data from the State Traffic Inspectorate, from July 1 to July 15, 2025, 1,181 accidents involving minors under the age of 16 occurred in the Russian Federation, in which 39 children were killed and 1,306 injured. One of the most vulnerable categories among underage road users are child passengers, the department noted. While driving in a car with a child, it is important for parents to choose a safe driving style. Sudden maneuvers and lane changes should be avoided. First of all, we are talking about overtaking, which involves driving into the oncoming lane: even where it is allowed under traffic regulations, there remains a risk of an emergency due to violations or inattention of another driver.

One of the main reasons for the increase in accidents among underage drivers is the lack of proper adult supervision. Parents often purchase equipment for their children themselves, such as mopeds or so-called pit bikes, which are prohibited from driving on public roads, forgetting to explain to them the basic rules of travel. In addition, the legal age for traveling in a particular vehicle is often ignored, the agency said.

A driver's license with an open category "M" is required to operate a moped and scooter. You can get it after studying at a driving school from the age of 16. At the same time, it is possible to travel on a moped on public roads only in a motorcycle helmet, provided that you have perfect command of the technique of driving such vehicles.

For driving a moped, scooter, motorcycle, or car without the appropriate license, a fine of 5,000 to 15,000 rubles is provided, while the vehicle is delayed and placed in a special parking lot. In addition, the fine for transferring the right to drive a vehicle to a child is 30 thousand rubles. Their parents or legal representatives will be responsible for teenagers under the age of 16 who were driving vehicles. The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strengthen control over the leisure time of teenagers, as well as the availability of vehicles for them.

"Do not leave the keys to cars and motor vehicles for children, thereby allowing the possibility of a dangerous trip. Strictly monitor children's leisure time, especially in the evening, to avoid the possibility of accidents involving them. We urge parents to show attention and care to children: by your example, you influence their behavior on the road, so strictly follow the Rules of the road. When walking at night and in conditions of insufficient visibility, be sure to use retroreflective elements on your clothes and children's clothes and always monitor their wearing," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The day before, it was reported that in the first half of 2025, the number of accidents involving taxi cars in Moscow decreased by 5.5%, and the number of deaths and injuries in such accidents decreased by 35% and 3.2%, respectively.
