- Fraudsters have come up with a new way to steal funds under the guise of "consumer protection"
In Moscow, fraudsters began to deceive pensioners by posing as employees of the consumer protection service. This was reported on July 17 in the Telegram channel of the Moscow prosecutor's office.
"The new "mask" of telephone scammers is now being presented by the "consumer protection service," the agency said.
It is noted that the "leading employee" of such a service called a 78-year-old resident of Moscow and reported the theft of the pensioner's funds. At the same time, the fraudster stressed that the money can be returned under certain conditions — you need to come up with a code word for further communication.
The conman said that the man was supposed to receive money into the account as compensation, which needed to be cashed out and handed over to couriers. The pensioner went to the bank with his wife several times to withdraw various amounts, they transferred funds to the attackers who called the code word. As a result, the damage exceeded 5 million rubles.
A "code word" is a sure sign of fraud. As soon as they ask you to transfer your savings to the courier on the phone, stop communicating and hang up. If there are any doubts, check the information yourself by calling the body or organization from which the call was allegedly received," the Moscow prosecutor's office stressed.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that fraud with pensioners' money would become an aggravating circumstance. A corresponding bill with amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation has been prepared for submission to the State Duma by deputies of the LDPR faction led by Leonid Slutsky.
