The US Department of Justice has fired federal prosecutor Maureen Comey, who led the prosecution of rapper Sean Combs, known under the pseudonym P. Diddy. This was reported on July 17 by ABC News channel.

The Department of Justice on Wednesday fired Maureen Comey from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where she most recently led the prosecution of Sean "Diddy" Combs.

According to the newspaper, Comey was previously an assistant United States attorney who led the investigation into the case of an accomplice of former financier Jeffrey Epstein, accused of sexual crimes. It is noted that Comey was also involved in the investigation of Epstein himself.

According to the TV channel, citing sources, US President Donald Trump said he would like to see her in his administration. This could mark "another reshuffle in the country's most influential federal prosecutor's office," ABC News writes.

On July 11, the Reuters news agency reported that the US State Department was dismissing more than 1.3 thousand diplomats and officials as part of the American leader's plan for a large-scale reorganization of the department. It is specified that the dismissals will affect 1,107 civil servants and 246 diplomatic service employees based in the United States.
