Ex-Volkswagen plant prepares welding workshop for production of Tenet cars
The AGR Holding plant in Kaluga has completed the preparation of the welding workshop for the launch of production of cars of the new Russian brand Tenet on a full cycle. This is stated in the company's message, which was received by Izvestia on July 17.
The largest amount of work was carried out on redesigning the welding shop for the design features of the new car. In the case of Tenet, this required an almost complete restructuring of the workshop, starting from the placement of equipment and ending with the programming of operations for a specific body architecture, the company said. The level of automation of welding production has been increased to 90%.
The first welding equipment was delivered to the factory on March 25, and the first Tenet car body was welded at the end of June. In three months, the equipment was installed, configured, launched and debugged. Currently, more than 200 pre-production bodies have been welded.
"The start of welding and the subsequent deployment of full-cycle production will be an important step in increasing the level of localization. This will gradually expand the range of Russian suppliers, including manufacturers of body parts and power components, and strengthen the technological independence of the project," AGR noted.
In May, the Tenet Rus press service announced that the first production crossover of the Tenet brand would be presented to the general public in June 2025. As previously reported by Izvestia, the Tenet brand range will include four crossovers: one B- and C-class model each, as well as two D-class SUVs.
The day before, the Moscow Department of Transport announced that sales of the new Moskvich 8 crossover should begin in the "very near future."
