The European Commission (EC) has suspended an investigation into the social network X of American businessman Elon Musk amid trade negotiations with the United States. This was reported on July 17 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

It is noted that the proceedings are being conducted due to "violations of the rules of digital transparency of the block." Brussels planned to complete the inspections before the European Parliament's summer break (July 26 – August 22), but this deadline will be missed, the article says.

"The decision is likely to be made after the situation with the trade negotiations between the EU (EU. — Ed.) and the United States. <...> Everything depends on this," writes FT, citing officials familiar with the situation.

According to the publication, the reason for the conflict between Brussels and major technology companies in the United States was the EU Digital Services Act. At the same time, the administration of US President Donald Trump claims that the association unfairly persecutes American companies and violates the principles of freedom of speech.

CNBC reported on July 11 that the French prosecutor's office had opened a criminal case against X on suspicion of distorting algorithms to manipulate discourse. According to the newspaper, in January, one of the lawmakers also criticized the social network for bias and distortion of the personal data processing system.
