Chita predicted the development of the flood situation
A second flood wave is not expected in Chita, but heavy precipitation is still possible in the region, especially by the end of the month. This statement was made by the head of the city department of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Alexander Shcheglov in the studio of RTK "Transbaikalia" on Thursday, July 17.
"Yes, there will be rains and thunderstorms, but they will not have such an effect that we are now afraid of another flooding. Although it's nature. Everything is possible. But according to forecasts, such a situation should not happen," Shcheglov said, quoted by ChitaMedia news agency.
According to him, every three days the agency receives up-to-date information about the hydrometeorological situation and plans its actions based on this data.
Now employees of the civil defense and emergency management continue to carry out rescue and recovery work. During the flooding on July 12-13, 680 cubic meters of soil were poured out — all embankments withstood the onslaught of water.
Shcheglov also noted that the damage from the current flood was significantly less than in 2018. The main impact of the disaster occurred in the Central district, where sections in eight DNTs were damaged. In 2018, 1208 houses were flooded in Chita. Then the water level rose to 405 cm, while this year it reached 407 cm.
On Tuesday, July 15, an emergency regime was introduced in Chita against the background of floods. The Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Osipov, instructed to organize the work of assessment commissions after the water begins to leave the sites.
