Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braje called on US President Donald Trump to impose duties against Russia without waiting for a 50-day delay for these measures. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on July 16.

"The West should immediately increase pressure on Moscow to try to force it to sit down at the negotiating table," the newspaper quoted Brahe as saying during the Aspen Security Forum.

The Foreign Minister of the Republic is convinced that such actions will allegedly be able to weaken Russia, which, in turn, successfully continues conducting a special operation in Ukraine due to the stability of the economy.

On July 14, the American leader announced that the United States would impose 100% secondary duties on Russia if a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict was not reached within 50 days. He also said that he supports the congressional initiative on sanctions against Russia, but "does not yet know whether it will be necessary."
