- In Germany, they stated that it was impossible to accept the proposal to increase the EU budget
Germany will not be able to accept the proposal of the European Commission (EC) to increase the budget of the European Union (EU) for 2028-2034. This was announced on July 16 by German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius.
"A significant increase in the EU budget is unacceptable at a time when all member states are making significant efforts to consolidate their national budgets. We will not be able to accept the European Commission's proposal," TASS quoted him as saying.
Cornelius noted that Germany also does not support additional corporate taxation proposed by the European Commission. He believes that she should support a reformist approach and focus on new budget priorities.
The head of the administration of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Gergei Guyash, told reporters during a briefing on July 16 that Hungary does not support the draft EU budget for 2028-2034, 25% of which is planned to be provided to Ukraine. He called the project pro-Ukrainian and stressed that Budapest could not support it in its current form.
