Hungary intends to ban the entry into the country of three Ukrainian militants responsible for the death of a Hungarian during forced conscription in Transcarpathia, if the European Union (EU) does not include them in the sanctions lists. This was announced on July 16 by the head of the Hungarian government administration, Gergei Gulyash.

"We still expect the European Union to accept this proposal. If the EU does not accept it, Hungary can act within its capabilities, and we will act. We are talking about three clearly identifiable military leaders <...> this will mean a ban on entry to Hungary," he said during a government briefing.

Gulyash noted that this problem is not unique. He also added that the Ukrainian government in Budapest had not given an explanation for what had happened, and the conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on this topic "should not be initiated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban."

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on the same day that the country had demanded that the EU impose sanctions against three employees of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for the death of Hungarian citizen Jozsef Szebestien during forced conscription in Transcarpathia.
