Despite the duration of heavy rains and thunderstorms, it is too early to talk about a change in the climatic zone of Moscow, but an increase in their number in the metropolitan region can already be assumed. Forecaster Roman Vilfand told about this on Wednesday, July 16.

According to him, climate change has been calculated for decades and over a large area. At the same time, climate change can also be judged by the recurrence of dangerous phenomena, but it can already be assumed that there is a possibility of an increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms in the metropolitan region, he added.

"The temperature has increased in Moscow over the past 30 years. In winter, it is very strong — in January by an average of 3 degrees, and in July — about 1.5-1.8 degrees. Once the temperature of the surface layer increases, it means that thermal energy increases, which naturally transforms into other types of energy. The transformation of these energies leads to an increase in convective processes," the forecaster explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

He added that most experts believe that the increase in the frequency of convective processes and heavy precipitation is increasing.

In turn, meteorologist Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, said that a fifth of the monthly precipitation rate fell in Moscow on July 16, the Moscow City News agency reports.

For example, 5 mm of rainwater was recorded at the city's base weather station at VDNKh, 3 mm at Baltschug, and 8 mm in Tushin. However, the most precipitation fell in Butovo — 18 mm, Moscow 24 clarifies.

Olga Zolina, a leading researcher at MIPT, said that rare mammatus clouds appeared in the metropolitan region due to the heat and frequent thunderstorms, which can be distinguished by their "baggy" shape, RT reports.

Earlier that day, Vyacheslav Afonchikov, an intensive care physician and anesthesiologist, said that high air temperatures can negatively affect even healthy people. The specialist reminded about the importance of light-colored clothes with long sleeves and long bottoms. 360.ru .

Forecaster Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, told Izvestia on July 15 that rainy weather would remain in the capital until the end of the week, but precipitation would become less intense.

On the same day, Yuri Varakin, deputy director of the Hydrometeorological Research Center of Russia, told NSN that during a thunderstorm it is worth avoiding tall trees and reservoirs, as well as any metal structures, and you should immediately take shelter indoors.
