The owner of a gas station in the US state of New Hampshire, Steve Whitmore, discovered a rare coin with the image of former President John F. Kennedy worth more than $ 3 million. This was reported by Elcabildo on July 16.

Whitmore said he noticed an unusual 50-cent piece during the morning cash register recount. The coin was different from the others, so the man turned to a numismatist expert. The expert confirmed that the find is a rare prototype of a 1964 half—dollar with a Kennedy profile.

According to the publication, the find has aroused great interest among collectors and auction houses around the world. As a result, the coin was sold for $3.2 million, which was a record for coins of this type.

"The idea that one coin could be worth more than my entire business was beyond anything I could ever have imagined," Whitmore admitted.

On December 27 last year, a man in Turkey found 12 gold coins hidden there by the previous owner in a kitchen cupboard he had bought, after which he returned them to the owner. It was reported that the previous owner of the cabinet and gold coins was forced to sell his furniture, as his house had to be demolished due to severe earthquake damage.
