The Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg has arrested the son of the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora, Mutvalu Shikhlinski, in a case of violence against a representative of the community. This was announced on July 16 by the press service of the courts of the Sverdlovsk region.
"The accused has been given a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of two months," the Telegram channel says.
The defendant is charged under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("The use of violence against a government official or his relatives in connection with the performance of his official duties"). He will be in custody until September 14.
On June 28, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced that an ethnic criminal group had been suppressed in the Sverdlovsk region, whose members are suspected of a number of murders and attempted murders in recent years. According to investigators, people from Azerbaijan, who are citizens of the Russian Federation, are involved in crimes in Yekaterinburg committed in 2001, 2010 and 2011.
Later, on July 1, in Yekaterinburg, law enforcement officers also detained the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora. Currently, eight defendants have been arrested in the case of the Ural organized criminal group.
