- A humanitarian center was opened in the Sverdlovsk region with funds from the charity lottery draw
The Alapaevsk Diocesan Humanitarian Center "Thank You" has opened in the city of Alapaevsk, Sverdlovsk region. The costs of furnishing the premises and purchasing equipment were covered, including by funds raised during the charity Easter run of the Russian Lotto.
As Oksana Tubman, Director of Sponsorship and Corporate Social Responsibility at the multidisciplinary holding company S8 Capital, which includes Stoloto, recalled, the Easter edition took place this spring. 10 rubles from each ticket sold were sent to the Orthodox relief service "Mercy" for charitable purposes. In total, more than 48.7 million rubles were transferred.
"These funds will be used throughout the year to support socially significant projects throughout the country, as well as to provide targeted, humanitarian, medical, social and spiritual assistance to those in need. One of the first projects to receive support was the opening of a humanitarian center in Alapaevsk," Tubman said.
The idea of creating such a center appeared several years ago from the head of the department for church charity and social service of the Alapaevsk diocese, schema-monk Basilisk Savelyev. The Synodal Department for Charity of the Russian Orthodox Church launched a fundraiser for the project, but the amount raised was not enough. The funds from the Easter edition of the Russian Lotto helped fill the shortage.
Saveliev stressed that people in need come to the church every day for support, and for many years the diocese has been helping those in need. "One—time assistance to a person is important in an acute phase of need - it is often a matter of survival. But in order to help the wards rectify the situation and arrange their lives, comprehensive and systematic support is required," he added.
The Thank You center has equipped halls for providing humanitarian assistance to those in need, as well as a space for consultations with a professional clinical psychologist.
