The French defense industry, despite its ambitious claims, faces serious difficulties in competing with American arms manufacturers. This was stated by a military expert, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin, in an interview with Izvestia on July 16.

"In order to develop our industry, it is necessary to have it. Not many countries have a defense industry. For example, Hungary or Romania do not have it," the source said.

In his opinion, attempts by countries to abandon purchases of American weapons are "meaningless", since the United States created NATO to control Europe and its states.

Discussing the impact of the French position on strategic alliances within NATO and the EU, Litovkin stressed that it would not have any significant impact. He explained that the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union are two interconnected structures under the control of the United States.

"NATO and the EU are practically the same organization, only one is military, the other is economic. And the United States also runs the European Union, just as they run NATO. Through the same countries, through the same representatives, through the same politicians educated by the United States. Therefore, there is no serious, big contradiction between the European Union and NATO," the military expert concluded.

The Politico newspaper announced on July 15 that France does not plan to participate in the initiative to purchase American weapons for Ukraine. Paris is striving to develop its own weapons production, the authors of the article noted.
