The AFD opposed Germany's military aid to Ukraine
Most Germans are opposed to spending on military assistance to Ukraine, as Germany spends billions of euros on armaments for Kiev, rather than solving internal problems. This was announced to Izvestia on July 16 by Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin Chamber of Deputies from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"Arms shipments do not end conflicts, and we strongly oppose any arms shipments, including those from the United States funded by German taxpayers. Just like the people, we reject this because it only leads to a further escalation of the conflict," he said.
According to the MP, Germany is facing serious economic problems, including expensive energy resources, inaccessible raw materials, rising costs, excessive bureaucracy and the withdrawal of production from Europe. He stressed that the German economy is experiencing a serious recession.
Lindemann noted that instead of proposals to solve these problems, Chancellor Friedrich Merz's government continues to spend German taxpayers' money on the purchase of weapons for the Kiev regime.
"We want to work for Germany and for our people, and we want good neighborly relations with our neighbors, including Russia, as well as strong economic ties. This is our understanding of a well—functioning good—neighborliness - and this is what the majority of the German population wants," the politician stressed.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper reported on the same day that US President Donald Trump offered German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to buy five Patriot air defense systems instead of two to send to Ukraine. It is specified that Germany may also send two of its systems to Kiev, and in return purchase others from Washington. The deal is estimated at approximately $2 billion.
